Vol. 399 No. 10

Written Answers. - Poll Tax.

Peter Barry

Question:

72 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will outline the action he has taken to ensure that young Irish emigrants to the United Kingdom are fully conversant with the implications of the poll tax.

I am satisfied that there is available to our emigrants a full range of information on the community charge.

The network of Irish welfare organisations across Britain, working in close co-operation with the embassy, London, are offering appropriate advice on the community charge to young Irish emigrants. Several of the organisations, including the Action Group for Irish Youth, which receive funds from the DÍON Committee under the Embassy's aegis, but also produced special information material on the community charge.
