Question:35 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Defence when it is planned to train NCOs in the Air Corps for pilot duties.

The question of training NCOs for pilot duties is under consideration but it will be some time before examination of all aspects of the matter is finalised.
I would like to put on record that I am in favour of suitably qualified NCOs being given an opportunity of training in this regard, and I hope the Minister will take that on board.
I agree fully with the Deputy. That was also a positive recommendation in the Gleeson Commission report. They said that a compelling case exists for this to be done. I agree with them and it will be done.
