Vol. 412 No. 6

Written Answers. - Vehicle Mileage.

Phil Hogan

Question:

132 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the large number of people who seek to illegally reduce the clocked mileage on their vehicles before sale; if he will outline any action he proposes to take to tackle this matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department have no firm data on the scale of the practice referred to which is an offence under the Merchandise Marks Act, 1887, as amended by the Consumer Information Act, 1978. Any specific allegations should be addressed to the Director of Consumer Affairs who is responsible for enforcement of this legislation.
