78 Mr. S. Barrett asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline the plans he has to expand the Civil Defence; if there are any proposals to cease the use of Ratra House as the headquarters for the Civil Defence, and if he will confirm that responsibility for Civil Defence will remain under the control of his Department.

In regard to the first part of the question, I would refer the Deputy to the reply furnished to Parliamentary Question No. 9 in the Dáil on 19 June 1991. There are no proposals to change the status of Ratra House as the headquaters of Civil Defence.

The question of the future control of Civil Defence will come up for examination in the context of a review of the Department generally which is at present taking place.
