Question:

51 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applicants nationally for the local authority loans for house purchase and improvement scheme as outlined in the plan for social housing; the number and type of applicants for this scheme; and the total cost of the scheme to date.

The total numbers of applications for local authority house purchase and improvement loans received between 1 January and 30 June 1991 were approximately 900 and 300, respectively. The latest available details of expenditure on house purchase loans are published in my Department's bulletin of housing statistics for the June quarter, 1991. Expenditure on local authority house improvement loans in the first six months of this year was £1.1 million. Information in relation to the type of applicants for local authority house purchase and improvement loans is not available in my Department.
