Vol. 415 No. 1

Financial Resolutions, 1992. - Financial Resolution No. 3: Excise—Televisions.

I move Financial Resolution No. 3:

(1) THAT the duty of excise on televisions imposed by paragraph 5 (1) of the Imposition of Duties (No. 236) (Excise Duties on Motor Vehicles, Televisions and Gramophone Records) Order, 1979 (S.I. No. 57 of 1979), shall not be charged or levied on or after the 30th day of January, 1992.

(2) IT is hereby declared that it is expedient in the public interest that this Resolution shall have statutory effect under the provisions of the Provisional Collection of Taxes Act, 1927 (No. 7 of 1927).

I am sure the House will welcome this resolution providing for the abolition of exicse duty on television sets from midnight tonight. Late night viewers will be able to look at their television sets much more fondly after 12 midnight.

They would not want to be drinking cider.

Well, I hope they would not.
