Vol. 424 No. 9

Written Answers. - Blooding of Greyhounds.

Tony Gregory

Question:

60 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if the admission made in Court under oath by a person (details supplied) in County Limerick that he sold rabbits to greyhound owners at the Limerick Dog Track to be used for blooding of greyhounds will be fully investigated by the Gardaí; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It is not the practice for the Minister for Justice to give detailed information to the House about individual Garda investigations except in singular instances where the circumstances of an investigation are so exceptional that such a course is deemed to be appropriate. All I propose to say therefore is that I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the case in question was the subject of a Garda investigation which resulted in a conviction by the Courts in relation to cruelty to animals and that further allegations of cruelty to animals arising from this case are being investigated.
