Vol. 424 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Dublin Car Crimes.

Austin Currie

Question:

76 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice whether his attention has been drawn to an upsurge in crime involving car burning, thefts from cars and damage to cars in the Inglewood, Oakfield and Hazelwood areas of Clonsilla, Dublin 15; if he will seek a Garda report on these incidents; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they are aware of incidents of vehicle-related crime in the area referred to by the Deputy.

The Garda authorities have informed me that they are giving the problem a high level of priority and have taken a number of measures to prevent and detect such crime in the area. Foot and mobile patrols have been directed to be alert to the problem in the course of patrolling the area, and appropriate attention has been and is being directed at suspected offenders. The Garda authorities report that these measures are proving successful in that a number of people have been dealt with by the Courts in connection with vehicle related crime in the area.
The Garda authorities inform me that they are continuing to monitor the problem and will take whatever further measures may be appropriate to deal with it.
