Written Answers. - Treatment of Schizophrenic Prisoners.

Question:

91 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Justice the reason a prisoner (details supplied) in Mountjoy prison who is schizophrenic is being held in this prison instead of being treated for this disorder in an appropriate hospital.

The person referred to by the Deputy was committed to Mountjoy Prison on 4 January 1993 and subsequently transferred to the Central Mental Hospital, Dundrum, for inpatient psychiatric care on 2 February 1993.
