Question:

125 Mr. Flanagan asked the Taoiseach the number of promotions within his Department to the posts of Executive Officer, Staff Officer and Clerical Officer for each of the years from 1988 to date in 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information requested by the Deputy, in relation to direct internal promotions made within my Department, is given in the following table:

The table includes data on staff who were formerly in my Department and who transferred to the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht with effect from 1 January 1993. It does not include the two clerical officers, two staff officers and two executive officers who transferred on promotion to my Department, over the period, from within the Civil Service.

The promotions were made as opportunities arose and were in line with general procedures.
