Vol. 442 No. 1

Written Answers. - Bail Laws.

Ivor Callely

Question:

75 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice when amendments were last made to the law on bail; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Our bail laws were amended by the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, which provides that a sentence of imprisonment for an offence committed on bail must be consecutive on any sentence passed for another offence. The situation in relation to possible changes in the law on bail was outlined by me at some length in response to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 7, 8, 12, 26, 35, 45, 48, 51 and 64 of 3 February 1994 to which I would refer the Deputy.
