Vol. 442 No. 3

Written Answers. - North Lee Development Committee.

Bernard Allen

Question:

64 Mr. Allen asked the Taoiseach the funding that has been made available to the 1993 North Lee Development Committee.

The North Lee Development Company was established under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress as one of the pilot areas for the area-based response to long-term unemployment. These areas have been redesignated under the Local Development Programme which is a major part of the National Development Plan, 1994-1999.

Partnership companies receive funding from the EU global grant for local development, the Exchequer and the private sector. The EU funding is managed by Area Development Management Limited, an independent intermediary company established specifically for this purpose and which operates in accordance with guidelines agreed with the European Union. Exchequer funding is made available through my Department's Vote. In 1993 the North Lee Company received £215,000 from the Exchequer. I understand that, in addition, a sum of £280,000 from the global grant has been allocated to the company, of which £70,000 has yet to be drawn down. I should point out that the global grant allocation is entirely at the discretion of ADM Limited.
