Vol. 442 No. 3

Written Answers. - Equal Treatment Directives.

Jim Higgins

Question:

99 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Justice the number of EEC, EC and EU directives which have come to her Department since Ireland joined the European Community.

As I indicated in reply to a previous question relating to EC directives (Official Report Volume 428, column 135), the information sought in the question is not readily available and would have to be specially compiled. This could only be done by diverting scarce staff resources from other more pressing tasks, which would not be warranted.

Details of all EEC-EC-EU directives appear in the Official Journal of the European Communities, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. Information on directives adopted is also contained in the reports on Developments in the European Communities, which the Government makes twice yearly to the Houses of the Oireachtas.
