Vol. 443 No. 3

Written Answers. - RSI Numbers.

Mary Harney

Question:

118 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Social Welfare the plans, if any, he has to introduce RSI numbers for all of the population, whether working or not; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue and Social Insurance, RSI, number is the unique personal social services number issued by my Department for the purpose of tax, social welfare and related services.

At this stage the vast majority of clients have RSI numbers. More recently, adult dependants are being assigned their own RSI number. RSI numbers are also being assigned to children and they are issued with a social services card, which bears the RSI number when they reach 16 years of age. It is my intention that over time every person would have an RSI number.
