Vol. 443 No. 8

Written Answers. - Decentralisation of Land Registry Office.

Austin Deasy

Question:

33 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice the latest position with regard to the decentralisation of part of the Land Registry office to Waterford; and the number of personnel involved.

Following consideration of the report of the study group which examined the various issues to be addressed in the decentralisation process, I have identified the particular operations of the Land Registry to be transferred to Waterford. Consultations are currently in progress between the Land Registry and the Office of Public Works on the Registry's detailed accommodation requirements at the new location. On the staffing side, applications from throughout the Civil Service for transfer to Waterford with the Land Registry are being considered at present and it is intended to commence the process of getting the staff for Waterford in place over the coming months. At this stage, it is expected that the actual transfer to Waterford will take place in mid-1996. The number of staff to be transferred to Waterford is about 150.
