Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Limerick Prison Security.

Michael Noonan

Question:

190 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Justice if Garda security at Limerick Prison will be maintained; if not, if it will be replaced by security cameras; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [301/94]

It would not be appropriate for me to discuss precise prison security arrangements either currently in force or planned for the future. This is a subject which is kept under continuing review by my Department, local prison management and, where appropriate, the Garda Síochána. Factors taken into account in setting levels of security for any prison include the make up of the prison population and the nature of the perimeter and internal inmate control structures of the prison.
