Vol. 446 No. 1

Written Answers. - Presidential Briefing.

John Bruton

Question:

20 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Taoiseach the recent steps, if any, he has taken, as required under Article 28.5.2 of the Constitution, to keep the President informed in matters of domestic policy. [1448/94]

I would like to assure the House that I continue to discharge fully the duty placed on me by Article 28.5.2 of the Constitution to keep the President generally informed on matters of domestic and international policy. As I have said on previous occasions, I would not regard it as appropriate or in keeping with the constitutional position to depart from precedent by giving details of such meetings.

Meetings take place frequently both by specific appointment and on occasions when we meet in the performance of our respective duties. Additionally, my Department keeps in touch, on a daily basis, with the Office of the President on a wide variety of matters.
