Vol. 446 No. 1

Written Answers. - Company Assistance.

John Bruton

Question:

28 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Taoiseach the purposes for which a company (details supplied) received technical assistance through his Department; the amount received; the results achieved to date; if the audited accounts of the company have been published; and the names of the directors of the company. [1532/94]

I assume that the technical assistance being referred to by the Deputy is that available from the EU under the Community Support Framework 1989-1993. No such technical assistance was provided by my Department to the company.

Any funds in respect of technical assistance received by the company through the first Global Grant for Local Development are a matter for the company itself and the EU from which such funds would be sourced. I have no ministerial function in regard to such matters. The company, Area Development Management (ADM) Ltd., was established to manage and disburse the Global Grant for Local Development and is independent in carrying out this function. My Department negotiated the global grant with the European Commission but is not involved in its day-to-day administration.

The audited accounts of the company for the period to end December 1993 were published earlier this year as part of the annual report 1993. The report includes the names of the directors. The directors are nominated by a number of organisations as set out in the articles of association, including one member nominated by the CRC secretariat, who is from my Department. I do not appoint the members of the board.
