Vol. 466 No. 3

Written Answers. - UN Convention on Racial Discrimination.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

63 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform when the UN race convention of 1965 will be signed. [11294/96]

Ireland has signed but not ratified the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. Ratification of the convention cannot take place prior to the enactment of the Employment Equality Bill and the Equal Status Bill.

It is intended to ratify the convention when all necessary measures are in place.
