Vol. 467 No. 4

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Areas Scheme.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

293 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry his views on whether the area known as Templeludigan, County Wexford, met the criteria for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas scheme; the reason he did not submit this area under the appeals system for inclusion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13381/96]

I have had this matter investigated, and I assume the Deputy is referring to the townland of Templeludigan, in the District Electoral Division of Clonleigh, County Wexford.

The townland exceeded the stocking density limit of 0.99 livestock units per forage hectare. Therefore, it was not possible for the disadvantaged areas appeals panel to recommend its inclusion in the proposal for extension of the disadvantaged areas. The appeals panel completed its work in August 1993 and its recommendations were submitted to Brussels in November 1993.
