164 Mr. S. [16391/96]

Limerick East): The estimated additional cost to my Department of the EU Presidency is £400,000. This includes the support of a senior officer of the Department in the permanent representation in Brussels, the contribution to the cost of the colloquium, the EU presidential meeting on blood safety and self sufficiency in September 1996 and the conference on Alzheimer's disease in November 1996. It also includes the cost of additional travel within and outside Europe to fulfil obligations deriving from the Presidency.

My Department has not incurred any additional expenditure in relation to bulletins, pamphlets and newsletters as a result of the Irish Presidency of the EU.
