Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Status.

Mary Harney

Question:

330 Miss Harney asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to confer urban renewal status on the former Ushers Mill site in Drogheda, County Louth; if so, when; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16330/96]

There are no proposals to extend the current urban renewal scheme to any additional towns or areas. A comprehensive review of the impact, effectiveness and cost of the urban renewal schemes which have operated to date is nearing completion. It would be inappropriate to consider what new areas, if any, might be suitable for designation as part of any future scheme until general policy in relation to the next phase of urban renewal is determined in the light of the review.
