Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Correspondence.

Michael McDowell

Question:

431 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to a letter dated 28 August 1996, from a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8; if so, when she intends to reply to such correspondence; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16633/96]

I am aware of the letter referred to by the Deputy.

The letter in question raises a wide range of issues, many of which are of a most serious nature.

Because of the seriousness with which these matters are viewed within my Department and because of the complexity of the issues involved, it has been necessary to carry out very detailed inquiries and to seek the advice of the chief state solicitor's office.

My Department will respond to the letter in question as soon as its inquiries have been completed and advice received.
