Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - EU Presidency.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

459 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Justice the estimated total cost to her Department of all bulletins, pamphlets, newsletters, circulars arising from Ireland's Presidency of the EU; and the estimated total additional cost to her Department of Ireland's Presidency, indicating the major items of expense. [16391/96]

My Department has not published any bulletins, pamphlets or newsletters arising out of Ireland's Presidency of the European Union. The cost of circulars is covered under general administrative costs.

The estimated total additional cost to my Department's budget is £1.79 million. Approximately 33 per cent of this consists of the salaries of additional staff seconded to the Department's EU Division for the Presidency. A further 20 per cent consists of additional travel and subsistence expenses. The remaining expenditure arises in connection with the purchasing of computers, provision of interpretation at seminars, hosting of seminars, conferences, provision of transport for delegates and other incidental expenses.
