Vol. 470 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fostering Rights.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

90 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Health when formal fostering rights will be given to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 who has cared for her young nephew for the past two years and who has undergone the required training. [18991/96]

Placements of children who are in the care of health boards, and who are not placed in a residential setting, are made in accordance with the provisions of the Child Care (Placement of Children in Foster Care) or the Child Care (Placement of Children with Relatives) Regulations, 1995.

The regulations provide for the establishment of committees to consider the suitability of persons who wish to foster children in the care of health boards. I am advised by the Eastern Health Board that all relevant documentation in relation to the case in question will be with its fostering placement committee before the end of this month. I have asked the health board to expedite a decision in the matter.
