Vol. 474 No. 7

Written Answers. - Free Fees Initiative.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

90 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education whether widows and lone parents are entitled to free fees; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3899/97]

Under the free fees initiative, tuition fees are payable in respect of eligible students who, irrespective of their marital or parental status, are attending full-time undergraduate courses, which must generally be of at least two years duration, at approved third level institutions. Repeat students and students who are pursuing a second period of undergraduate study at the same level do not, in general, come within the definition of eligible student.
