291 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on the conditions at St. Patrick's Institution in view of remarks made recently by a district court judge (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13455/97]
Following the recent remarks made by a judge in the District Court, the then Minister for Justice, Deputy Owen, investigated the suggestions made and having found no evidence which would substantiate suggestions of the kind made, wrote to the judge expressing her concern regarding the matter and inviting the judge to forward any relevant information to her. The Minister also invited the judge to put the public record straight at the earliest opportunity. To date, there has been no response from the district court judge.
