Alan Shatter

Question:

103 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason there is no representative of the Irish Nurses Organisation on the departmental working group reviewing the guidelines on child abuse; and if a representative of the organisation will be appointed immediately to the group. [10278/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 22, 28 and 103 together.

Careful consideration was given to the composition of the working group to review the child abuse guidelines and I am satisfied that the working group adequately represents all the child care interests both statutory and voluntary. Nursing interests are represented by a superintendent public health nurse, nominated by the chief executive officers of health boards.

The Deputies may wish to note that the working group will provide an opportunity for consultation during the course of its work.
