Vol. 495 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Michael Ferris

Question:

359 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the long delays in the Wards of Court Office caused by a serious staff shortage; the plans, if any, he has to address this problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19326/98]

I am well aware that there are delays in the processing of cases in the Office of Wards of Court and this matter is the subject of continuing discussions between the Registrar, senior officials in my Department and the Department of Finance.

In relation to the current staffing complement, a number of vacancies exist, which have arisen out of the promotion of officers serving in the Office of Wards of Court and my Department is taking steps to fill these vacancies.
