Vol. 524 No. 1

Written Answers. - Care of the Elderly.

Michael Ring

Question:

123 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when he will introduce a scheme to cover the monitoring fee costs for medic alarms to elderly people or allow the fee to be paid by way of a grant to the relevant community alert groups in view of the fact that many elderly people are not actually getting the alarms as they simply cannot afford the monitoring fee; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21833/00]

Under a scheme funded by the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs, voluntary groups are assisted in relation to the provision of alarm systems for older people. I have passed the Deputy's question to that Department with a request that they reply direct to him.
