Vol. 527 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Austin Deasy

Question:

97 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need for a replacement unit for St. Francis's Ward in St. Joseph's Hospital, Dungarvan, County Waterford; and if he will provide funding to the South Eastern Health Board for this purpose. [28999/00]

As the Deputy is aware, the provision of health services in County Waterford is a matter for the South Eastern Health Board.

I understand the board has plans to replace a number of long stay wards as part of the phased development of St. Joseph's Hospital in Dungarvan. The Deputy will be aware that capital funding has already been allocated to provide for the upgrading of St. Joseph's Hospital, Dungarvan, through the commissioning of St. Enda's ward, which was completed earlier this year.
The question of proceeding with the further development of St. Joseph's Hospital is a matter for consideration by the South Eastern Health Board in the light of the availability of capital funding and the board's other priorities for the development of services for older people.
Question No. 98 taken with Question No. 15.
