Vol. 529 No. 4

Written Answers. - BASIS Programme.

Jim Higgins

Question:

59 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the status of the BASIS programme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2020/01]

As part of the Government action plan, "Implementing the Information Society in Ireland, our Department is responsible for the development of the BASIS initiative. This cross-departmental initiative arises from a commitment by all levels of Government to improve the compliance processes that affect business in Ireland, by delivering electronic information and services based around the life events of a business, for example, registering a business, employing staff, funding and other supports.

Our Department issued a request for tender in September 2000 for proposals for the development of this application and also a study into how business interacts with Government. The procurement process has recently been finalised and PricewaterhouseCoopers have been awarded this contract. PricewaterhouseCoopers is scheduled to start working on this project within the next few weeks.
