Question:8 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will make a statement on the outcome of the European Union Fisheries Council in Brussels on 15 December 2000. [3339/01]

As I advised the House, the outcome of the December Fisheries Council was generally satisfactory from the Irish viewpoint and the overall package was broadly welcomed by the fishing industry. I am satisfied we delivered effectively on our three key objectives, working with other EU ministerial colleagues to develop strategic alliances to our benefit, which are backed up by solid analysis. I have already responded to this question.
I am pleased with the information supplied by the Minister in his reply to Question No. 2, which covers the subject of this question.
