195 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Finance if he will hold a special competition to allow temporary clerical officers who have worked several years in the public service to apply for more secure employment in view of the fact many are precluded, under the present regulations, from gaining full-time pensionable jobs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4866/01]
Confined competitions have been held on occasion by the Civil Service Commission for the establishment of temporary clerical staff with appropriate qualifying service in the Civil Service. As part of its ongoing recruitment programme, the Civil Service Commission will be arranging for a further such competition to be held later this year.
Serving staff may be eligible to compete at open clerical officer competitions held from time to time by the Civil Service Commission, except for competitions confined to former civil servants. The next one is expected to be held at some point in 2001.
