Vol. 551 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mobile Telephony.

Michael Ring

Question:

161 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the plans to register all mobile phone users to ensure that the practice of using mobile telephones for crank or malicious calls can be stopped. [10068/02]

It is an offence under section 13 of the Post Office (Amendments) Act 1951, as amended, to make such calls. I have received no representations on the matter and any consideration of the proposal would have to take into account law enforcement, industry and data protection interests.
