Vol. 553 No. 7

Written Answers. - Departmental Funding.

Richard Bruton

Question:

182 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the way in which spending in the first six months of 2002 compares to the budgeted profile for spending for each major programme of his Department's spending; and his forecast for year-end overruns. [15110/02]

The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the following table in so far as the major programmes funded under Vote 30 – Marine and Natural Resources – are concerned. Amended Estimates for 2002 are being prepared at present in order to transfer to my Department allocations in respect of the energy, communications and broadcasting programmes.

The overall objective is to match the Department's expenditure to the voted amount, as per the amended Estimates. Most of the marine programmes are expected to come within target for year end, with reallocations between programmes to occur, as necessary, to cover any situations where programme expenditure exceeds the amount in the amended Estimate. Therefore, an overrun on the overall 2002 Vote Estimate provision is not anticipated.
For information, the position as of end May 2002 on two of the major programme areas within the marine and natural resources Vote is as follows. The €1.4 million forecasted excess on inland fisheries relates to expenditure under the fisheries boards' "This is Our River" initiative and additional overhead costs within the boards while the €1 million forecast under other services relates to exceptional payments to be made under the Minerals Development Act, 1979.
