Written Answers. - Strategy Statements.

John Bruton

Question:

192 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he has reviewed the strategy statement for his Department for 2001-04 prepared for the previous Government; and if he proposes to make alterations to it in view of his own personal priorities or the contents of the new programme for Government. [15265/02]

In accordance with the provisions of the Public Service Management Act, 1997 the Secretary General of my Department is required to prepare a strategy statement in respect of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources within six months of my appointment as Minister.

The planning phase in relation to preparation of a three year statement of strategy has already commenced. The statement will set out the goals, objectives, strategies and outputs in respect of each of the areas under the Department's remit. These will be formulated to reflect and deliver on my policy priorities and those contained in the new programme for Government.
