Vol. 561 No. 4

Written Answers. - Company Closures.

Jack Wall

Question:

177 Mr. Wall asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the closure of a com pany (details supplied) in Athy, County Kildare; if the company has been in contact with her Department regarding redundancy payments; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4303/03]

The company concerned does not appear to have yet contacted my Department regarding the closure referred to. It is a requirement that my Department be so notified under the appropriate legislation, in particular the Redundancy Payments Acts 1967 to 2001.

My Department has responsibility for the redundancy payments scheme and will therefore ensure that all employees receive their correct statutory redundancy lump sum payments under the Redundancy Payments Acts 1967 to 2001. In addition, we ensure that employers who pay their employees their correct statutory redundancy entitlements receive the 60% employers rebate. Any dispute concerning statutory redundancy payments can be referred to the Employment Appeals Tribunal.
