Vol. 564 No. 5

Written Answers - Industrial Relations.

Richard Bruton

Question:

104 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to concerns from the catering industry regarding the possible impact of proposals being considered by the joint labour committees regarding rosters, Sunday work and sick pay among other issues; and if she will make arrangements to have those concerns assessed before the recommendations of the joint labour committee take effect. [9825/03]

The catering joint labour committee for the county borough of Dublin and borough of Dún Laoghaire has formulated proposals to amend the conditions of employment of those workers in relation to whom the joint labour committee operates. These proposals were published on 11 March 2003. As required by the Industrial Relations Acts 1946 to 1990, a period of 21 days was allowed for the receipt of representations in relation to the proposals. A number of representations have been received in relation to these proposals and the committee, as it is required to do, will consider these.

The joint labour committee is representative of both employers and employees. I am satisfied that all representations received will be given full consideration by the committee and that the statutory procedure will ensure that the interests of workers and employers are considered at all relevant stages in this process.
