JOINT COMMITTEE ON COMMUNICATIONS, ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES debate -
Wednesday, 28 Nov 2007

Business of Joint Committee.

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland has confirmed the availability of its chairman, Mr. Conor Maguire, on Thursday, 6 December. Do members agree to meet at 9.30 a.m. on that day rather than on the Wednesday of that week? The BCI representatives are not available on Wednesday and we had agreed to meet them before we meet RTE.

When will RTE be coming in?

On 12 December.

Does that clash with the meeting of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement?

I will check that. Unfortunately, we must meet at the time allocated to us.

Deputy Coveney is away at present and is concerned in this matter. However, I believe his concentration is on the presentation by the RTE Authority.

I note that the proposed work programme does not include the Internet topic which I proposed at the last meeting.

The programme has not been finalised. That topic will be included.

The lack of broadband in certain areas is a major issue.

That topic is on the work programme.

When might we deal with the matter?

The work programme has not been finalised. Each issue will be dealt with as it comes up in each module. That issue is of concern to members and we will deal with it at the earliest possible date.

The joint committee adjourned at 1.05 p.m. until 9.30 a.m. on Thursday, 6 December 2007.
