JOINT COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS debate -
Thursday, 26 Mar 2009

Situation in Darfur: Motion.

I move:

That this committee calls on the Minister for Foreign Affairs to take all possible action to ensure that more lives are not lost in Darfur, to facilitate all non-government organisations engaged in humanitarian work to safely continue their work for the benefit of the people of Darfur and to take all relevant action at EU level and in the UN to achieve these objectives.

I second the motion.

Question put and agreed to.

Given the absence of some members, perhaps we could return to this issue on the next occasion the committee meets because of the seriousness of the problem.

The clerk will prepare a message to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Deputy Martin, that the motion has been agreed.

The joint committee went into private session at 4.55 p.m. and adjourned at 5 p.m. sine die.
