JOINT COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS debate -
Wednesday, 30 Jun 2010

Business of Joint Committee

The minutes of the meeting on 3 June have been circulated. Are there any matters arising? No. Are the minutes agreed? Agreed.

We have received two items of correspondence from the Joint Committee on European Scrutiny concerning decisions taken at its meetings on 25 May and 15 June, respectively. It is proposed that these be noted. Is that agreed? Agreed.

We should deal with them, without delay. I suggest that we seek confirmation from the Joint Committee on European Affairs, in its capacity as a scrutiny committee, that the agreements on fisheries do not prejudice the position of the Sahrawi people. There is an existing issue relating to an agreement on the fishing territories of occupied areas that has not been resolved at UN level. There was a flaw in a previous treaty and I want to make sure that it is not repeated in succeeding treaties. I want clarification.

That was agreed.
