Messages to Dáil and Seanad.

In accordance with Standing Order 87 the following message will be sent to the Dáil:

The Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights has completed its consideration of the following motion:

That Dáil Éireann approves the exercise by the State of the option or discretion provided by Article 1.11 of the Treaty of Amsterdam to take part in the adoption of the following proposed measures:

(i) a proposal for a Council Framework Decision on the recognition and supervision of suspended sentences, alternative sanctions and conditional sentences, a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Dáil Éireann on 27 February, 2007;

(ii) a proposal for the adoption by the European Union of the Agreement on Extradition between the European Union and the United States of America, done at Washington on 25 June, 2003 and the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance between the European Union and the United States of America, done at Washington on 25 June, 2003, copies of which Agreements were laid before Dáil Éireann on 24 April, 2008; and

(iii) a proposal for a Council Decision establishing a European Police Office (EUROPOL), a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Dáil Éireann on 18 July, 2008.

In accordance with Standing Order 72, the following message will be sent to the Seanad:

The Joint Committee on Justice, Equality and Law Reform has completed its consideration of the following motion:

That Seanad Éireann approves the exercise by the State of the option or discretion provided by Article 1.11 of the Treaty of Amsterdam to take part in the adoption of the following proposed measures:

(i) a proposal for the adoption by the European Union of the agreement on Extradition between the European Union and the United States of America, done at Washington on 25 June, 2004 and the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance between the European Union and the United States of America, done at Washington on 25 June, 2003,

copies of which Agreements were laid before Seanad Éireann on 24 April, 2008.

(ii) a proposal for a Council Decision establishing a European Police Force (EUROPOL),

a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Seanad Éireann on 18 July, 2008.

(iii) a proposal for a Council Framework Decision on the recognition and supervision of suspended sentences, alternative sanctions and conditional sentences,

a copy of which proposed measure was laid before Seanad Éireann on 27 February, 2007.

The joint committee adjourned at 4 p.m., sine die.
