Messages to Dáil and Seanad.

In accordance with Standing Order 87, the following message will be sent to the Dáil:

The Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights has completed its consideration of the following motion:

That Dáil Eireann approves the exercise by the State of the option or discretion provided by Article 1.11 of the Treaty of Amsterdam to take part in the adoption of the following proposed measures:

(i) a proposal for a Council Decision concerning the signing of the Agreement between the European Union and Republic of Iceland and the Kingdom of Norway on the application of certain provisions of Council Decision 2008/615/JHA on the stepping up of cross border co-operation, particularly in the areas of combating terrorism and cross border crime and Council Decision 2008/616/JHA on the implementation of Decision 2008/615/JHA on the stepping up of cross border co-operation, particularly in the areas of combating terrorism and cross border crime, and the Annex thereto a copy of which proposed measure was laid before both Dáil and Seanad Éireann on 3 January 2009; and

(ii) a proposal for a Council Framework Decision on the application, between member states of the European Union, of the principle of mutual recognition to decisions on supervision measures as an alternative to provisional detention,

a copy of which proposed measure was laid before both Dáil and Seanad Éireann on 24 March 2009.

In accordance with Seanad Standing Order 72, the following message will be sent to the Seanad:

That Seanad Éireann approves the exercise by the State of the option or discretion provided by Article 1.11 of the Treaty of Amsterdam to take part in the adoption of the following proposed measures:

a copy of which proposed measure was laid before both Dáil and Seanad Éireann on 24 March 2009.
