Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 24 May 1933

Vol. 16 No. 20

Private Business. - Business of the Seanad.

Cathaoirleach

We have a great deal of business to do and I suggest that we adjourn until to-morrow at 3 o'clock.

To-morrow is a holy day.

Cathaoirleach

It is, but it is for the House to decide whether or not it will sit to-morrow. We have got a lot of work to do and, at the rate at which we have progressed with this Bill, we might require to devote three days to work this week. I think we should certainly meet to-morrow.

I strongly object to meeting to-morrow. Personally, I think it is a bit of hypocrisy for the Dáil to say that they will not meet on Catholic holy days, but the Dáil is half of the Oireachtas and the whole Oireachtas ought to do one thing or the other. If the Dáil does not meet on a Catholic holy day, I do not think the Seanad should meet.

Agreed to sit at 3 o'clock on Thursday.

The Seanad adjourned at 7.30 p.m.
