Seanad Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 18 Jun 1946

Vol. 31 No. 25

Business of Seanad.

The next business is a motion by Senators Duffy and Tunney regarding old age pensions.

Senator Duffy has had to leave the House owing to illness. Perhaps the House would be agreeable to leaving this motion over until to-morrow.

To-morrow, the House will be occupied with the Local Government Bill and there will scarcely be time for the motion.

It is only a small matter and I am hoping that the Minister will accept it.

I should like to facilitate the mover of the motion but it was clearly understood that it would be taken immediately after the Finance Bill. Speaking for myself, I think that the motion might be taken after the next stages of the Finance Bill, if that is suitable to the Minister.

Next week would not suit us but to-morrow would.

The Local Government Bill must take precedence to-morrow.

If the House would agree not to take it next week, I should be satisfied.

As Senator Duffy is ill, I think that might be agreed to.

I was not aware of that. I suggest that we adjourn the motion indefinitely.

Agreed: That the motion be taken not earlier than July 3.

The Seanad adjourned at 8.30 p.m. until 3 p.m. Wednesday, 19th June, 1946.
