Vol. 48 No. 3

Public Business. - Joint Restaurant Committee—Motion.

Tairgim:—

Go gceapfar Rogha-Choiste ar a mbeidh seachtar comhaltaí a bheas le comhcheangal leis an Rogha-Choiste a cheap Dáil Éireann an 26ú Márta, 1957, chun Seomra Bídh an Oireachtais a stiúrú agus a rialú; Gur beirt a bheas mar chóram don Choiste;

Gurb é an Coiste Roghnaitheoireachta a ainmneos an Coiste.

That a Select Committee consisting of seven members be appointed to be joined with the Select Committee appointed by Dáil Éireann on 26th March, 1957, to direct and control the Oireachtas Restaurant;

That the quorum of the Committee be two;

That the Committee be nominated by the Committee of Selection.

On these motions, may I make a suggestion?

On motion No. 6.

The preceding ones would follow it. If possible, might it be arranged that the Independents have representation on this committee? There is a tendency sometimes to overlook them, but I think it would be fairer to the House, if it were convenient and considered proper, that those known to be Independents in the House have some representation.

I understood the Senator to mention last week or the week before that there were no Parties in this House.

I should be more explicit about that. I can agree entirely with that, but we have to face the reality of the situation. I should like to be a little more explicit in dealing with the statement made. We know very well that a good many members of this House receive the Party whip or one Party Whip, while some do not. That might be kept in mind while selecting these committees.

There is one Independent on the Committee of Selection.

I see that, Sir. I was referring to the others.

Question put and agreed to.
