Vol. 49 No. 11

Personal Explanation by Senator.

A Chathaoirligh, before taking up the business on the Order Paper, perhaps you would allow me to intervene on a matter of personal explanation.

The Senator has my permission.

During the course of the debate last Thursday on the Agricultural Produce (Cereals) (Amendment) Bill, I made a certain statement which the Chair asked me to withdraw. In the heat of the moment, I refused to withdraw it and I realise now, Sir, that in not complying with your request, I transgressed the rules of the House. I now wish, in deference to you, to withdraw the statement, and to express my regret to you, Sir, and to the House.

I am glad the Senator has taken this action. Until I read the Official Report, I was under the impression that at one stage the Senator had complied with the ruling of the Chair. The matter is now closed.
