Vol. 55 No. 14

Leinster House Building Work. - Personal Explanation by Senator.

I raised a matter here yesterday concerning the erection of a gallery outside the Dáil Chamber and unfortunately I was reported in the newspapers of today as if I had alluded to nothing else but the allocation of certain rooms to the Taoiseach, rooms which are now occupied by the Seanad. The Committee on Procedure and Privileges of the Seanad did hear of the suggestion that the Taoiseach should get certain rooms and a deputation saw him. The Taoiseach was most reasonable on that occasion. I said that yesterday. I should like to make it clear that I have no objection to the Taoiseach getting rooms that we have at our disposal. The point I raised yesterday did not concern the allocation of the rooms to the Taoiseach but the construction of a gallery by the Office of Public Works at the moment. I do not begrudge the head of the Government the suitable rooms at all.
