Vol. 107 No. 10

Business of Seanad.

When is it proposed to sit again?

It is proposed that the House sit at 10.30 in the morning. The House was notified that the Social Welfare Bill would be taken then. I have been in contact with that Department and there may be one hour's delay in the morning before they are ready to proceed, following what happens in the other House tonight. Because of that, at 10.30 a.m. we will deal again with the Combat Poverty Bill, on which Senator M. Higgins will be resuming. I am informing him of that so that he will be able to continue his contribution on that Bill. That will be completed at 11.30 a.m. and we will be going on to the Social Welfare Bill.

Could the Leader of the House give any indication of the programme for next week?

I am talking about tomorrow, which is appropriate. Tomorrow, depending on the progress made on the Social Welfare Bill, that will be decided, but it is quite likely from discussions with the main Opposition party, that the Social Welfare Bill will be the first business to be taken again next week in an effort to complete it as it must be law by 2 April.
